How much did it cost to buy our cave is a question we have been asked by both family and friends over the last few months.
Well now we can answer the question as we finally know ourselves, as whilst Friday 13th is unlucky for some, it’s certainly not for us, as the sale of the property is complete. We are happy and excited to announce that we are now proud owners of 2 cave houses in Andalucia, Spain.
When we were looking to buy property in Spain, we scoured endless websites trying to understand both the process involved as well as all the costs associated with the purchase. The general rule of thumb seemed to be to allow 10% of the value of the property to cover those associated costs.
We all know that theory is wonderful, but what in reality did we find ?
So just how much did it cost to buy our cave ?
Below are the additional costs incurred on top of the 50,000 Euros we paid for our cave house:
Power of Attorney 63.33 Euros
Solicitor Fees (Inc NIE) 750.00 Euros
Notary & Registration Fees 1,250.00 Euros
8% Transfer Tax 3,200.00 Euros
Bank Fees (bank draft fee) 175.00 Euros
Repatriation Insurance 49.48 Euros
Total Additional Costs 5,487.81 Euros (10.98% of purchase cost)
Total Cost of Property 55,487.81 Euros
So, there you have it, the answer to just how much did it cost to buy our cave.
And if you need a reminder – here is what our new cave house looks like 🙂
Now I guess the hard work begins. We have renovations scheduled for Spring of 2016 and our next visit planned visit is not until May 2016. I am sure we will be keeping you all updated with the highs and lows of owning a cave house
So … Who are one foot in the cave ?
We (Danny and Josie) have spent the last 10 years living and working in the Caribbean. In 2015 we decided we wanted to move closer to family and friends so bought a cave house in the Granada region of Andalucia, Spain. We moved there full time in January 2017. Now we write about our experiences of cave living and how we are adapting to life in Spain.
We also have a Facebook page full of pictures, experiences and information that we have found useful along the way. If its your thing, you can also follow us on Instagram 🙂
